Step Eight

Made a list of all persons we had harmed,
and became willing to make amends to them all.

Leader's Share and Step Questions

"Steps Eight and Nine are concerned with personal relations. First, we take a look backward and try to discover where we have been at fault, next we make a vigorous attempt to repair the damage we have done; and third, having thus cleaned away the debris of the past,we consider how, with our newfound knowledge of ourselves, we may develop the best possible relations with every human being we know.

My Dear Friends in Recovery,

Once again we get our pencil and paper and prepare to make a list. We list all the people, businesses, institutions and organizations noted in our 4th Step that we have harmed do to our behavior and reactions caused by our compulsive overeating, bulimia, anorexia, binge eating disorder etc., whether we are ready to make amends or not. The willingness will come as we go along as we begin making amends to those we are willing to make amends to and feel clean, fresh and new. For now, we are just making the list.

As I wrote out my list, I did not worry because I knew I would be going over the list with my sponsor because as it happened, there were people, businesses, institutions and organizations that I did, in fact, not owe an amends, but I did need to forgive and Step 8 is where the forgiving starts. I also knew that my sponsor would help me make "clean" amends. And that will be explained in the next step. I also knew by now that the amends were for me so that I could clean up the wreckage of my past and get set right with the God of My Understanding.

In essence, what I am saying is ....be bold and don't worry. As with all the other steps, keep it simple.

Eighth Step Prayer

Higher Power,

I ask Your help
in making my list
of all those
I have harmed.

I will take responsibility
for my mistakes,
and be forgiving to
others as You are
forgiving to me.

Grant me the
willingness to begin
my restitution.

This I pray.

Questions:

1. Have your prayed the 8th step Prayer?

2. Have you made your list?

3. Please share with us your experience of doing so.

If you answer yes to the above questions.....Congratulations. You have taken Step 8.

If you have any questions, as always, you can contact me via phone (number below) or email. I am very available to be there for you. If for some reason I do not answer the phone, please leave a message and I will definitely and without doubt get back to you.

All my love,
Dreena
