Step Twelve

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of working these steps, we carried the message to other compulsive eaters and practiced these principles in all our affairs.

We have admitted, came to believe and made a decision. We have inventoried, admitted to God and were ready to have God remove all our defects of character and made direct amends to all we had hurt. We are keeping spiritually awake and in touch with our HP. What more is asked of us?

Only that we carry the message. That is all we are asked to do. Carry the message to those who still suffer with our disease of compulsive overeating. For me the best way to live the message is to continue working steps 10 & 11 every day of my life. The program tells me as long as I live Step 10 and 11 every day I will be able to go any where and abstinence and recovery will stay with me.

Step 12 is devoted to service to others. Ever since we began working the steps we have been served by those who came before us. They have shared with us their experience, strength and hope. They have been our companions along this road. Now it is our turn to be of service to someone else who has a desire to stop eating compulsively.

I like to thank those who came before me for showing me the way. Each day I continue praying and meditating to keep in touch with HP. Each day I place my needs in the care of my HP and each day my needs are met. The promises are coming true and my life is one filled with joy, serenity and freedom from eating compulsively. For what more can a person ask?

If I want to keep on this Recovery Road I have to become the messenger by being the message. I do this by being the best I can be, showing others I can have a good time by laughing at myself. Happy people attract more people than grouches. Daily I thank my God, as I understand Him, for leading me here to this place where my physical needs are met, my emotional sores are healed and my spiritual longings are satisfied.

I urge all of you to keep your OA 12 & 12 as part of your daily reading. Those who have gone before us have served us well with their writing, their tradition and their actions. We can best show them we care by sharing their legacy with those who come after.

Thank you for allowing me to be your leader this session of Working the Steps. I have learned so much from your thoughtfulness. You have taught me humility by sharing your inner most feelings. Please continue to share you program. It is one of the best ways to make sure your recovery stays on track.

For me this has been a grand journey. I want to thank all of you who have come along this road to happy destiny. You have made my journey a pleasure. You have shared your heart and soul with the rest of us. This program is for those of us who want to live with a heart full of love, and healthy body and a Soul that soars as if on wings. Only by working the steps of Overeaters Anonymous will our lives continue on this course.

The last of the questions I will ask you

1.. What will you take with you from these past 12 weeks?
2.. What service will you give to the program?
3.. What does One Day at a Time mean to you?
My prayer for all of you is continued abstinence and serenity as you work your program of recovery by being of service to all who come your way.

Yours in ESH
