SLOGANS
and SAYINGS of the WEEK
-----
My
favorite slogan that I heard a few weeks ago is:
"I am
powerless but I am
not helpless."
That struck me as so profound. It is so true. I am
powerless over food but I am not helpless. I have all of the
resources of the program to help me.
Shanni
-----
"Happiness can exist only in acceptance."
I
gratefully accept
myself since in program, warts and all.
Joan
-----
Things I heard this
week:
A
member shared that she starts her day with her RPM's - Reading, Prayer
and Meditation.
And
an oldie:
"Say what I mean, mean what I say, but don't say it mean."

Lately we have had
questions regarding using non conference approved literature as the
topic for a meeting. I wrote to OA.org
and asked for
clarification on this topic.
Q: I understand that non
conference approved literature should
not be displayed at a meeting (for sale or otherwise) but can non
approved literature be used for a meeting topic or reading?
A: In OA we have a lot of
literature which has gone through a
thorough review process called Conference Approved Literature
(CAL). We also have Board
Approved literature (BAL) which
is
usually literature that is compiled from CAL or for specialized
use. We also use AA (AACAL)
conference approved literature.
Anything beyond these 3 types could be locally approved literature
(LPL) which is literature that
fills a need that OA literature does not
cover and we have guidelines for LPL. See the Guidelines for
Locally Produced Literature available for download at
http://www.oa.org/pdfs/localliteratureguidelines-2010.pdf.
So, OA approved
literature is CAL, BAL, AACAL, or LPL.
We ask that
members not quote from, or read from, non-OA approved
literature in meetings. Doing so dilutes the message of
recovery in OA. Members may use whatever literature they want
for their own use but we ask that they do not use it in a meeting.
Meetings that use
non-OA approved literature affect OA as a whole
because they imply that what they use is OA.
In gratitude for
OA,
Meg Harlor, R2

TRG
is looking
for additional
Newcomer Meeting Leaders.
We
have three Newcomer meetings a week (Tuesday @ 9pm, Friday @ 3pm,
Saturday @ noon) and ideally
there should be a variety of meeting leaders.
Please contact Barbara
W or Meeting
Admin if you want to be part
of this
rewarding service.

Recovery
Meditations ~ One Day at a Time
|
|
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The
Recovery Group is regularly in
need of meeting leaders (see the meeting schedule just below).
If you
have 3 months experience attending meetings and are interested
in
becoming a TRG meeting leader, please contact MtgAdm@lists.therecoverygroup.org
.
It
is a one hour a week rewarding service position. It does
require committing to that same one hour a
week for
a period of time,
but subs are available should life happen and you can't temporarily
keep that week's commitment.
Due
to the online format, it does require a level of computer competency
and comfort.

The Twelve Traditions
are the
guidelines of The Recovery Group
THE
12 TRADITIONS OF
OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS
1.
Our
common
welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon
OA unity.
2. For
our group purpose
there is but one ultimate authority — a loving God as He may
express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted
servants; they do not govern.
3. The only requirement
for OA membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.
4. Each group should be
autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or OA as a whole.
5. Each
group has but one
primary purpose — to carry its message to the compulsive
overeater who still suffers.
6. An OA group ought
never endorse, finance or lend the OA name to any related facility or
outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property and prestige
divert us from our primary purpose.
7. Every OA group ought
to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
8.
Overeaters Anonymous
should remain forever non-professional, but our service centers may
employ special workers.
9. OA, as
such, ought
never be organized; but we may create service boards or committees
directly responsible to those they serve.
10.
Overeaters Anonymous
has no opinion on outside issues; hence the OA name ought never be
drawn into public controversy.
11. Our
public relations
policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always
maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, films,
television and other public media of communication.
12. Anonymity is the
spiritual foundation of all these Traditions, ever reminding us to
place principles before personalities.
