"....he was convinced of the need for moral inventory, confession of
personality defects, restitution to those harmed, helpfulness to others. and
the necessity of belief in and dependence on God.".

In these passages, we find that the Founders accepted and utilized the concept that a spiritual recovery was a necessity. This idea was promoted by Dr. Silkworth, the Oxford Group, among others. The Founders knew from the beginning that finding and depending on God was the way...the spiritual way. While they journeyed along, and recorded their experience, strength and hope with each other and on paper, they found that they were describing their "steps" of recovery.
